The jewelry design process is iterative.
Kinda like software development.
Yes, I made that comparison.
But just like when I’m writing code, I try one thing that works successfully to begin with, but I find it’s not just efficient or elegant enough and make a change… the same is happening with jewelry designs. For real. This is where it connects.
This could happen. Innovation...

“Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It’s that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that’s what the poet does.” - Allen Ginsberg

Wonderful thing to meditate on in the midst of storm preparation and panic…
encourageous:
“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor...

I'm a frightened, fickle person
Fighting, crying, kicking, cursing.
Oh, after all the folderal and hauling over coals stops… what will I do?
"Land of Ready"
Ready is a myth
There is no such thing.
You’ll never be ready to write your book.
You’ll never be ready to be a musician.
You’ll never be ready to be a teacher.
The goal of the ready myth is to make you believe the Land of Ready exists and then get you to wait for it. To sit on your hands, waiting to start [note: Arcade Fire just came to mind, ha], waiting to dream,...

When I walk into the supermarket down the street
there is something about it that makes me feel like I went back in time about 50+ years. I don’t completely understand why.
It was about 3 months ago that I wrote an entry when two major events happened in one day, not to me, per se, but to people around me.
Half of those events hit me hard today.
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to watch the movie Amelie. It’s one of my favorites. The imagery and use of color is exquisite. The story verges on quirky fairy tale. The title character is perfect.
The opening...

vulnerability
I heard a bit about this on Friday, and it was rather interesting…
The definition of vulnerable according to Merriam-Webster (the online version, of course):
capable of being physically or emotionally wounded
open to attack or damage : assailable <vulnerable to criticism>
liable to increased penalties but entitled to increased bonuses after winning a game in contract bridge
The...

learning and leading
I wouldn’t consider myself much of a leader. And yet I spent 2 days at a leadership summit. I found out it was much more about what we all had to learn, anyway. Because as we find out, we can often have the best of intentions and what seems to be a great plan, but it may not always come to be successful or fruitful (by worldly standards, anyway) and then we find more of our own shortcomings...

Dancing on Needles
The album has its bright spots. And this to me is one of them.
I’m hesitant to say if I like it as much as Stromata. Probably not, that album was more consistent overall, but her experimentation and piano playing is spot on, no doubt… when listening to her music, I always feel that I’m getting a look into her psyche.

dissonance
[Bear with me, I don’t think this really makes any sense]
didn’t this used to make sense?
I‘ve stopped setting my morning alarm
something within can’t stand the scheduling
searching for an escape from routine
order will emerge from the chaos that has been
not quite harmonious yet
and the music in my mind reverberates with each forward step
new remedies for old...
